My Nana taught me to crochet granny squares when I was 8 years old. This blog is for my collection of crochet, knitting and Tunisian crochet patterns that I design and make. I have patterns for preemies, babies, toddlers and adults. They include blankets, hats, scarves, shoes, slippers, cardigans and jackets. I've come a long way since those granny squares! This is definitely not my Nana’s crochet!

Cotton Crochet Preemie Hat: 4-5lbs
Cotton Crochet Preemie Hat: 4-5lbs Free Pattern
To fit a preemie ~4-5lbs with head circumference 9 ½”-11 ½”
Finished hat laying flat measures 5 ¼” wide and 4” tall
Materials
#4 cotton yarn (I used Premier Home Cotton Yarn)
6mm hook (0.5mm bigger than suggested for yarn which makes the hat stretchier)
Notes
Each round is started in the same stitch as the starting chain. The end of each round is joined with a slip stitch to the first dc of the round, not to the starting chain. This makes a straight seam, and not a travelling seam, up the back of the hat.
hdc = half double crochet
Sl st = slip stitch
Ch = chain
St(s) = stitch(es)
Instructions
Round 1: With white yarn, make a magic circle, ch 1, 9 hdc into circle, join (9hdc)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in each st around, join (18hdc)
Round 3: Ch 1, *2 hdc in first st, hdc in next st, repeat from * around, join (27hdc)
