Hooded Monkey Toddler Jacket With Mittens

Yarn #4 in cream and brown
One pair of circular Knitting needles in size 5mm
Two pairs of circular Knitting needles in size 6mm
Crochet Hook size 5mm
Tapestry needle

Finished size:
15” across armpit to armpit laying flat
13” long from shoulder to hem

Abbreviations:
Ch(s) = chain(s)
K = knit
K2tog = knit 2 sts together
M1 = increase 1 st
P = purl
p2tog = purl 2 sts together
RS = right side
st(s) = stitch(es)
Stocking Stitch: odd row knit, even row purl
YO = yarn over
WS = wrong side


Instructions:

Jacket Body: 
With 5mm knitting needles, cast on 120 sts in cream yarn.
Ribbing:
Rows 1-2: K1, P1 across
Buttonhole  row:
Row 3: K1, P1, YO, K2tog, K1, P1 in first 6 sts, then  K1, P1 across
Rows 4-10: K1, P1 across

Change to brown yarn and 6mm needles
Row 11: K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1 across first 6 sts. Knit to last 6 sts. P1, K1, P1, K1, P1 , K1 across last 6 sts.
Row 12: K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1 across first 6 sts. Purl to last 6 sts. P1, K1, P1, K1, P1 , K1 across last 6 sts.
Rows 13-30: Repeat Rows 11-12 until work measures 8” from beginning
Make buttonhole on rows 15 and 25:
Rows 15 and 25: K1, P1, YO, K2tog, K1, P1 in first 6 sts. Knit to last 6 sts. P1, K1, P1, K1, P1 , K1 across last 6 sts.

Right Front:
Row 31: With second pair of 6mm needles,  K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1 across first 6 sts. Knit  next 24 sts. Leave remaining sts unworked on the first pair of needles.
Row 32: Purl to last 6 sts. P1, K1, P1, K1, P1 , K1 across last 6 sts.
Row 33: K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1 across first 6 sts. Knit across.
Rows 34-46: Repeat Rows 32-33 on these 30sts until  work measures 3” from divide.
Make buttonhole on rows 35 and 45:
Rows 35 and 45: K1, P1, YO, K2tog, K1, P1 in first 6 sts. Knit across.

Neck shaping:
Row 47: Cast off first 10 sts.  Knit across.
Row 48: Purl to last 2 sts. P2tog.
Row 49: K2tog, Knit to end of row.
Row 50: Purl to last 2 sts. P2tog.
Row 51: K2tog, Knit to end of row.
Row 52: Purl to last 2 sts. P2tog.
Row 53: Knit across.
Row 54: Purl across.
Armhole measures  5 ½"
Row 55: Cast off all sts.

Left Front:
With WS of work facing, join brown yarn. With second pair of 6mm needles,  K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1 across first 6 sts. Purl next 24 sts. Leave remaining sts unworked on the first pair of needles.
Row 33: Knit to last 6 sts. P1, K1, P1, K1, P1 , K1 across last 6 sts.
Row 34: K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1 across first 6 sts. Purl across.
Rows 35-45: Repeat Rows 33-34 on these 30sts until  work measures 3” from divide.

Neck shaping:
Row 48: Cast off first 10 sts.  Purl across.
Row 49: Knit to last 2 sts. K2tog.
Row 50: P2tog, Purl to end of row.
Row 51: Knit to last 2 sts. K2tog.
Row 52: P2tog, Purl to end of row.
Row 53: Knit to last 2 sts. K2tog.
Row 54: Purl across.
Armhole measures  5 ½"
Row 55: Cast off all sts.

Back:
Row 33: With RS of work facing, join brown yarn. Knit across 60 sts.
Row 34: Purl across.
Rows 35-56: Repeat Rows 33-34 until armhole measures same length as Right Front to shoulder.
Row 57: Cast off first 16 sts. Knit across to last 16 sts. Cast off last 16 sts. Keep center sts on needle for hood.

Hood: With RS of work facing, pick up 11 sts from right front neck edge, and 11 sts from left front neck edge (do not pick up from rib edging). 50Sts.
Row 1: Knit
Row 2: Purl
Rows 3-8: Stocking stitch
Row 9: K1, M1, Knit across to last 2 sts, M1, Knit to end.
Row 10: Purl
Repeat Rows 9-10 increasing to 60sts
Continue in stocking stitch until hood measures 7” from beginning.
Next Row: Cast off first 20 sts. Work across.
Next Row: Cast off first 20 sts. Work across.
Continue in stocking stitch on remaining 20sts until work measures 5” from divide and will meet with hood sides.
Ribbing: Keeping sts on needle, pick up 35 sts down each side of the hood.
Change to 5mm needles.
Rows 1-6: K1, P1 across. Fasten off.

Sleeves (make 2):
With cream yarn and 5mm needles, cast on 36 sts.
Rows 1-6: Ribbing: K1, P1 across.
Change to brown yarn and 6mm needles.
Row 1: K1, M1, Knit across to last 2 sts, M1, K1.
Continue in stocking stitch, increasing each end of every 4th row to 50 sts. Continue straight in stocking stitch until sleeve measures 9”. Fasten off.

Mittens (make 2):
With cream yarn and 5mm needles, cast on 22 sts
Cuff:
Row 1: K1, P1 across. Join to beginning st.
Rows 2-10: K1, P1

Change to 6mm needles
Increase for thumb:
Rows 1-2: Knit
Row 3: K11, pm, M1, kK, M1, pm, K to end
Row 4: knit
Row 5: K11, pm, M1, kK, M1, pm, K to end
Row 6: knit
Row 7: knit to first marker, put the 7 sts between markers on a holder. Remove markers. M1. Knit to end.
Rows 8-9: Knit

Decrease for top:
Row 10: K3, K2tog, around, K1
Row 11: Knit
Row 12: K2, K2tog, around
Row 13: Knit
Row 14: K1, K2tog, around
Cut yarn, pull thread through remaining 8 sts and pull tight

Mitten cord:
Join yarn to cast on row of first mitten on the side opposite the thumb. Ch 80 (or required length). Join chain to cast on row of second mitten, opposite thumb. Fasten off and weave in ends.


Finishing:
Sew shoulder seams. Sew side seams. Sew sleeve seams. Sew sleeves into jacket. Sew hood seams.

Monkey Face:
Snout:
With cream yarn and 5mm crochet hook, Ch 11
Rnd 1: hdc in 2nd chain from hook, hdc in next 8 chs, 3hdc in last ch. Turn to work other side of chain, hdc in next 8 chs , 2hdc in last ch.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2hdc in fit st, hdc in next 9 sts, 2hdc in next 3 sts, hdc  in next 8 sts, 2hdc in last 2 sts.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, 2hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 10 sts, 2 hdc in next 6 sts, hdc in next 9 sts, 2hdc in last 2 sts.
Fasten off.

Eyes (make 2):
With cream yarn and 5mm crochet hook,
Rnd 1: Magic ring, ch 1, hdc 10
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2hdc, hdc around
Rnd 3: Ch 1, 2sc, sc around
Fasten off.

Ears (Make 2):
With cream yarn and 5mm crochet hook,
Rnd 1: Magic ring, ch 1, hdc 10
Rnd 2: ch 1, 2hdc, hdc around
Change to brown yarn,
Rnd 3: ch 1, 2sc, sc around
Fasten off.

Sew ears to sides of hood. Sew snout and eyes on hood center top. With brown yarn, fill in the center triangle  between eyes and snout to make a nose.  With brown yarn, embroider over the center of the eyes, and sew a line down the center of the snout to make a mouth.
