Materials:
#4 Yarn
7 mm 16” Circular Knitting Needles

I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease and bamboo circular knitting needles (see them here)

Finished measurements:
Laying flat
7” across
8” tall
Fits teen to adult head sizes 16” - 22”

Abbreviations:
K = Knit
K2tog = Knit 2 sts together
P = Purl
P2tog = Purl 2 sts together
st(s) = stitch(es)


Instructions:
Cast on 88 sts.
Round 1: K2, P2 across. Join to beginning st.
Continue in K2, P2 until work measures 6½”

Shape Crown
Round 1: K2, P2,K2,P2, K2tog, P2, K2, P2, K2, P2tog around 80 sts.
Round 2: K2tog, work 7 sts knitting the knit sts and purl the purl sts, P2 tog, work 7 sts knitting the knit sts and purl the purl sts, K2 tog around 70 sts.
Round 3: work 6 sts knitting the knit sts and purl the purl sts, K2tog or P2 tog (K2tog the K sts and P2tog the purl sts), around 62 sts.
Round 4: work 5 sts knitting the knit sts and purl the purl sts, K2tog or P2 tog (K2tog the K sts and P2tog the purl sts), around 53 sts
Round 5: work 4 sts knitting the knit sts and purl the purl sts, K2tog or P2 tog (K2tog the K sts and P2tog the purl sts), around 42 sts.
Round 6: work 3 sts knitting the knit sts and purl the purl sts, K2tog or P2 tog (K2tog the K sts and P2tog the purl sts), around 35 sts.
Round 7: K2, K2tog, around 27 sts.
Round 8: K1, K2tog, around 17 sts.
Round 9: K2tog, around 8 sts.
Cut yarn, draw through remaining 8 sts, pull tightly and fasten off. Weave in ends.
