Crochet Ladies Slouchy Beret / Beanie Hat - Free Pattern

Having long hair that I usually wear tied up in a bun, a regular beanie hat doesn't fit over my hair. I also like a hat that comes down and covers my ears - and doesn't ride up. So I made this slouchy beret style beanie hat. My hair fits under the hat (see the photos below), it fits over my ears, and it doesn't ride up!

Ladies Slouchy Beret /  Beanie Hat

Finished hat measures 20” diameter, 7 ½” tall

#4 yarn (I used Sensations Angel Hair)

I and K Crochet Hooks 

(The larger hook is used for rounds 1-15, the smaller hook is used for rounds 16-17)

sc2tog –single crochet two stitches together (decrease)
dc2tog –double crochet two stitches together (decrease)
sl st – slip stitch

Round 1: Using K hook, make a magic ring, Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 11 dc in ring, join with slip st to ch-3 (12 dc)

Round 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc plus ch-1), [dc in next dc, ch 1] 11 times; join with slip st to ch-4 (12 dc, 12

ch-1 spaces).

Round 3: Ch 3, dc in next space, ch 1, [dc in next dc, dc in next space, ch 1] 11 times; join to ch-3 (24 dc, 12 ch-1 spaces).

Round 4: Ch 3, dc in next dc, dc in next space, ch 1, [dc in next 2 dc, dc in next space, ch 1] 11 times; join to ch-3 (36 dc, 12 ch-1 spaces).

Round 5: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, dc in next space, ch 1, [dc in next 3 dc, dc in next space, ch 1] 11 times; join to ch-3 (48 dc, 12 ch-1 spaces).

Round 6: Ch 3, dc in next 3 dc, dc in next space, ch 1, [dc in next 4 dc, dc in next space, ch 1] 11 times; join to ch-3 (60 dc,12 ch-1 spaces).

Round 7: Ch 3, dc in next 4 dc, dc in next space, ch 1, [dc in next 5 dc, dc in next space, ch 1] 11 times; join to ch-3 (72 dc, 12 ch-1 spaces).

Round 8: Ch 3, dc in next 5 dc, dc in next space, [dc in next 6 dc, dc in next space] 11 times; join to ch-3 (84 dc).

Round 9: Ch 3, dc in each dc around (84 dc).

Rounds 10-13: Repeat Round 9.

Round 14: Ch 3, [dc in next 3 dc, dc2tog] rep around. sl st to ch-3. (68 dc).

Round 15: Ch 2 (counts as sc here and throughout), sc in next st, sc2tog, [sc in next two sts, sc2tog] rep around, sl st to ch-2 (52).

Rounds 16-17: Using I Hook, Ch 1, sc in each sc around. sl st to ch-1 (52).
