Summer Cotton Crochet Cardigan - Teen

My second pattern. Same style cardigan with a lighter, lacier pattern. This time made for Chloe. Size XS.

Materials:

Cotton Yarn 4/medium

5.5 mm hook

Abbreviations and Glossary:
bpdc - back post double crochet
ch – chain

Ch-sp – chain space
dc - double crochet

Fdc – foundation double crochet
fpdc - front post double crochet
RS – right side
sk – skip
sl st – slip stitch

Stitch Pattern

Row 1: Ch3,  skip next dc, *(dc, ch 3, dc) in the next dc, skip next 2 dc, 3 dc in the next dc, skip next 2 dc. Repeat from * across, dc in top of beginning Ch3. Turn. 

Row 2: Ch3, *3 dc in the next ch-3 sp, (dc, ch 3, dc) in the middle dc of the next 3 dc group. Repeat from * across, dc in top of beginning Ch3. Turn. 

Additional Rows: Repeat Row 2

Make 2.

Row 1 (RS): Fdc 24.

Pattern

Row 2: Ch3, skip 2 dc, *3 dc in the next dc, skip 2 dc, (dc, ch 3, dc) in the next dc, skip 2 dc. Repeat from * across, dc into top of beginning Ch3, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, *3 dc in the next ch-3 sp, (dc, ch 3, dc) in the middle dc of the next 3 dc group. Repeat from * across, dc into top of beginning Ch3, turn.

Rows 4-9: Repeat Row 3

Ribbing

Row 10: Dc in each st across (24 dc).

Row 11: Ch 3, sk first dc, *fpdc in next dc, bpdc in next dc; rep from * until 1 st remains, dc in tch. 25 dc

Row 12: Ch 3, sk first dc, *bpdc in next dc, fpdc in next dc; rep from * until 1 st remains, dc into top of beginning 3 ch, turn. 

Row 13: Rep Row 11.

 

Pocket should measure 7.5” across and 6” vertically. Adjust gauge by using a smaller or larger hook.

Row 1 (RS): Fdc 110

Ribbing

Row 2 (WS): Ch 3, sk first dc, *fpdc in next dc, bpdc in next dc; rep from * until 1 st remains, dc in beginning ch3.

Row 3 (RS) Ch 3, sk first dc, *bpdc in next dc, fpdc in next dc; rep from * until 1 st remains, dc in beginning ch3. 

Row 4 (WS): Rep Row 2. Do not fasten off.

Pattern

Row 5: Ch3, skip 1 dc, *(dc, ch 3, dc) in the next dc, skip 2 dc, 3 dc in the next dc, skip 2 dc. Repeat from * to end, dc into top of beginning Ch3, turn.

Row 6: Ch 3, *3 dc in the next ch-3 sp, (dc, ch 3, dc) in the middle dc of the next 3 dc group. Repeat from * across, dc into top of beginning Ch3, turn.

Rows 7-28: Repeat Row 6. Body measures 12”

 

Dividing For Front and Back

Place markers between stitches to mark sections:

Right Front: 27 sts

Back: 56 sts

Left Front: 27 sts

 

Right Front:

Working only the first 27 sts, repeat Pattern Row 2 (10) times. Front section measures 6” from divide. Fasten off. 

 

Back:

Join yarn. Working only between markers indicating Back, repeat Pattern Row 2 (14) times. Back section measures 9” from divide. Fasten off leaving a 40” tail. 

 

Left Front:

Join yarn. Working these 28 sts, repeat Pattern Row 2 (10) times. Front section measures 9” from divide. Fasten off. 

 

Joining:

With right sides facing each other, use stitch markers to pin Right Front and Left Front to Back Section at shoulders. Working from shoulder to neck and using hook and tail left from fastening off, join Back to Front sections using slip stitches. Join back to sides of front sections leaving 8” opening for armholes.

 

 

Sleeves

Make 2. Crochet in the round.

 

Round 1: Fdc 38 join to first dc with a sl st.

Ribbing

Round 2: Ch 3, sk first dc, *fpdc in next dc, bpdc in next dc; rep from * until 1 st remains, dc in tch. 50 dc

Round 3: Ch 3, sk first dc, *bpdc in next dc, fpdc in next dc; rep from * until 1 st remains, dc in tch. 

Round 4: Rep Row 2. Do not fasten off.

Pattern

Round 5: Ch3, *skip 2 sts, (dc, ch3, dc) in next, skip 2 sts, 3 dc in next. Repeat from * around, join with a sl st to beginning ch3.

Round 6: Ch3, *3 dc into next ch 3 sp, 3 dc into middle of next 3 dc. Repeat from * around, join with a sl st to beginning ch3. 

Rounds 7-28: Repeat Row 6. Sleeve measures 17”. Fasten off leaving a 40” tail for sewing.

 

 

Finishing

 

Collar Ribbing on Body

With RS facing, attach yarn at bottom of right front (this is the right side when wearing).

Ribbing Row 1 (RS) Ch 3, dc in same space yarn attached in, dc evenly up front, around neck and down front to opposite corner.

Ribbing Row 2 (WS) Ch 3, sk first dc, *fpdc in next dc, bpdc in next dc; rep from * until 1 st remains, dc in tch. 

Ribbing Row 3 (RS) Ch 3, sk first dc, *bpdc in next dc, fpdc in next dc; rep from * until 1 st remains, dc into top of beginning Ch3, turn. 

Fasten off.

 

Attaching Sleeves and Pockets

Using stitch markers, pin sleeves to armhole openings. Thread leftover yarn tail on tapestry needle and whip stitch sleeves in place on the inside of the armhole. Repeat for second sleeve.

 

Using stitch markers, pin WS of pocket to RS of sweater. Thread leftover yarn tail on tapestry needle and whip stitch pocket in place. Repeat for second pocket.
