Hooded Baby Panda Sweater - Free Pattern

Yarn #4 (I used Caron Simply Soft)
Hook sizes 5mm and 6mm (I used crochet hooks with ergonomic handles. You can buy them here.

Pattern:

Body: Ch 60 (68-76) in black yarn using 5mm hook
Foundation row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Ch 1. Turn.
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Ch 3. Turn.
2nd row: (eyelet row). Miss first 2 sts. *1 hdc in next st. Ch 1. Miss next st. Rep from * to last st. 1 hdc in last st. Ch 1. Turn.
3rd row: 1 sc in each st or ch to end of row. Ch 1. Turn. 59 (67-75) sc.
4th row: 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Ch 1. Turn.
5th row: Change to white yarn. Dc in each st to end of row. Ch 2. Turn. 59 (67-75) dc.
Rep last row until work from beg measures 6 (7 1/2-8)", ending with RS facing for next row.

Right Front:
Next row: (RS). Change to black yarn. Dc across 14 (16-18) sts. Ch 1. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
Cont even until work from divide measures 2 1/2 (2 1/2-3)", ending with RS facing for next row.

Neck shaping:
1st row: (RS). Sl st in first 5 (6-6) sts. Ch 1. 1 dc in same st as last sl st. 1 dc in each st to end of row. Ch 1. Turn. 10 (11-13) sts.
2nd row: Work to last 2 sts. Dc2tog over last 2 sts.
3rd row: Dc2tog over first 2 sts. Work to end of row. Ch 1. Turn. 8 (9-11) sts.
Cont even until armhole measures 4 1/2 (5-5 1/2)", ending with RS facing for next row and omitting turning ch at end of last row. Fasten off.

Back:
With RS of work facing, miss next st. Join black yarn with sl st to next st. Ch 1. 1 dc in same sp. Work across 28 (32-36) sts. Ch 1. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked. Cont even across 29 (33-37) sts of Back until armhole measures same length as Right Front to shoulder, ending with RS facing for next row and omitting turning ch at end of last row. Fasten off.

Left Front:
With RS of work facing, miss next st. Join black yarn with sl st to next st. Ch 1. 1 dc in same sp. Work to end of row. 14 (16-18) sts.
Cont even until work from divide measures 2 1/2 (2 1/2-3)", ending with RS facing for next row.

Neck shaping:
1st row: (RS). 1 dc in each st to last 4 (5-5) sts. Ch 1. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
2nd row: Dc2tog over first 2 sts. Work to end of row. Ch 1. Turn.
3rd row: Work to last 2 sts. Dc2tog over last 2 sts. 8 (9-11) sts. Cont even until armhole measures 4 1/2 (5-5 1/2)", omitting turning ch at end of last row. Fasten off.

Sleeve:
Ch 18 (20-22) in black yarn.
Foundation row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Ch 1. Turn.
1st row: 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Ch 1. Turn. 17 (19-21) sc.
2nd row: 2 sc in first st. sc across to last st. 2 sc in last st. Ch 1. Turn. 19 (21-23) sc.
Rows 3-4: 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Ch 1. Turn.
Row 5: 2 dc in first st. dc across to last st. 2 dc in last st. Ch 1. Turn. 21 (23-25) dc.
Row 6: 1 dc in each dc to end of row. Ch 1. Turn.
Repeat rows 5-6 to increase to 31(33-35)sts
Next row: dc across until sleeve from beg measures 6 (6 1/2-7)", ending with RS facing for next row and omitting turning ch at end of last row. Fasten off.

Finishing:
Sew shoulder seams.

Hood: With RS of work facing, join white yarn with sl st to right front neck edge, work 11 (11-12) sc up right front neck edge, 17 (19-19) sc across back neck edge and 11 (11-12) sc down left front neck edge. Ch 1. Turn. 39 (41-43) sts. Cont in dc until hood from beg measures 6 (6 1/2-7)", ending with RS facing for next row.
Next row: (RS). Sl st in first st. Sl st in each of next 13 (13-14) sts. Ch 1. 1 dc in same st as last sl st. 1 dc in each st to last 13 (13-14) sts. Ch 1. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
Dc across on rem 13 (15-15) sts until it measures 4 3/4 (4 3/4-5)" and will meet with hood front, ending with RS facing for next row and omitting turning ch at end of last row. Fasten off. Sew hood seams.

Front Edging:
With RS of work facing, in black yarn work 1 row sc evenly up left front edge, around hood and down right front edge.

Buttonhole Band:
Row 1: 1 sc in each of first 2 sc. *Ch 1. Miss next sc. 1 sc in each of next 6 (7-8-9) sc. Rep from * 3 times more. Ch 1. Miss next sc. 1 sc in each of last 3 sc. Ch 1. Turn.
Row 2: 1 sc in each of first 3 sc. *1 sc in next ch-1 sp. 1 sc in each of 6 (7-8-9) sc. Rep from * 3 times more. 1 sc in next ch-1 sp. 1 sc in each of last 2 sc. Ch 1. Turn.
Row 3: 1 sc in each sc across. Fasten off.

Button Band:
Join black yarn left front bottom edge.
Rows 1-3: sc in each st up front edge, ch 1, turn.
Fasten off.


Drawstring:
Make a chain 50" long in black yarn. Fasten off.
Sew in sleeves. Sew sleeve seams. Sew buttons on buttonband. Thread drawstring through eyelets at bottom edge.

Eyes:
Make two:
Rnd 1: In white yarn, magic ring, ch 2, 5sc
Rnd 2: In black yarn, 2sc in each sc around (10sc)
Rnd 3: sc, 2sc around (16sc)
Fasten off

Ears:
Make two:
Rnd 1: In black yarn, magic ring, ch 3, 10sc, sl st to ch3
Rnd 2: ch 3, 2sc in each sc around (20sc), sl st to ch3
Rnd 3: ch 3, sc, 2sc around (30sc), sl st to ch3
Rnd 4: ch 3, sc, sc, 2sc around (40sc), sl st to ch3
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Fold the circle in half and sew together to create a half circle.

Sew eyes and ears on hood to make the panda head.
