Crochet Cotton Baby Sun Hat - Free Pattern



To fit a baby ~6-8lbs with head circumference 13-14”
Finished hat laying flat measures 6 ½” wide (excluding brim) and 5 1/2" tall


Materials
#4 cotton yarn 
6mm hook (0.5mm bigger than suggested for yarn which makes the hat stretchier)

Abbreviations
Dc = double crochet
Sl st = slip stitch
Ch = chain
St(s) = stitch(es)


Special Stitches:
Shell: 2dc, ch2, 2dc in one stitch
V Stitch: dc, ch1, dc in one stitch


Instructions

Round 1: Make a magic circle, ch 1, 8 dc into circle, join with a sl st to beg ch (8dc)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 dc in each st around, join with a sl st to beg ch (16dc)
Round 3: Ch 1, *2 dc in first st, dc in next st, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to beg ch (24dc)
Round 4: Ch 1, *2 dc in first st, dc in next 2 sts, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to beg ch (32dc)
Round 5: Ch 1, *2 dc in first st, dc in next 3 sts, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to beg ch (40dc)
Rounds 6 – 8: Ch 1, dc around, join with a sl st to beg ch (40dc)
Round 9: Ch1, dc in same st, *skip one dc, shell in next dc, skip one dc, V stitch in next dc. Repeat from * around. Skip one dc, shell in next dc, skip one dc, then dc, ch1 in same st as beginning st to make a complete V stitch, join to beginning ch1 with sl st. (10 shells, 10 V stitches)
Round 10: Ch1, *shell in ch2 space of shell stitch, V stitch in ch1 space of V stitch. Repeat from * around, dc, ch1 in same st as beginning st to make a complete V stitch, join to beginning ch1 with sl st. (10 shells, 10 V stitches)
Round 11: Repeat Row 10. 
Fasten off and weave in ends.
