Crochet Rectangle Lap Blanket




Measures 31" x 26". Perfect size for Grandmas lap, for someone in a wheelchair, a patient in a hospital chair, a grandparent at home or in a nursing home etc. Keeps the person warm without all the bulk of a regular size blanket.


Abbreviations:
Ch = chain
Dc = double crochet
St = stitch
Begin dc2tog = yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, draw up through first 2 loops only (2 loops left on hook)
Complete dc2tog = yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, draw up through first 2 loops, yarn over, draw through remaining 3 loops (1 loop left on hook)
Corner cluster = complete dc2tog, (dc, ch 1) twice, begin dc2tog in the same space

Instructions:

Chain 22.

Row 1: In the 4th chain from the hook, begin dc2tog. Skip 1 ch, complete dc2tog in next chain.  Ch 1.  *Begin dc2tog in same chain. Skip 1 ch, complete dc2tog in next chain. Ch 1. Repeat from * across the chain, ending with the completion of a dc2tog in the last chain. Ch 1, dc in the same chain 3 times. Begin dc2tog in the same chain. Turn to work the other side of the chain. Skip 1 ch, complete dc2tog in the next chain. Ch 1. *Begin next dc2tog in same chain. Skip 1 ch, complete dc2tog in next chain. Ch 1. Repeat from * across the chain. In the last chain, complete the dc2tog, ch 1, dc in the same chain 3 times. Ch 1, join to top of beginning ch 3.

Row 2: Ch 1. *Begin dc2tog in ch 1 space. Complete dc2tog in next ch 1 space. Ch 1. Repeat from * across to the corner space. In the corner space make a corner cluster. Complete dc2tog in the next ch 1 space, begin dc2tog in same space. Make a corner cluster in the corner space. **Complete dc2tog in next ch 1 space. Ch 1. Begin dc2tog in same ch 1 space. Repeat from ** to corner. Make a corner cluster. Complete dc2tog in the next ch 1 space, begin dc2tog in same space. Make a corner cluster in the corner space. ***Complete dc2tog in next ch 1 space. Ch 1. Begin dc2tog in same ch 1 space. Repeat from *** to end. Make the final complete dc2tog in same space as the first begin dc2tog. Ch 1 and join with a slip st to top of beginning Ch 1.

Row 3: Ch 1. *Begin dc2tog in ch 1 space. Complete dc2tog in next ch 1 space. Ch 1. Repeat from * across to the corner space. In the corner space make a corner cluster. Continue with the dc2tog pattern along the sides and making a corner cluster in each corner.

Rows 4-23: Repeat Row 3.

I used Color A for Rows 1-5, Color B for Rows 6-10, Color A for Rows 11-15, Color B for Rows 16-20, Color A for Rows 21-23.


To make a larger blanket repeat Row 3 to desired size.
