Granny Stitch Leftovers Blanket

Finished size: 72”x72”

You can make this larger or smaller. Keep crocheting rounds until it becomes the size you want.

I started this blanket because I had so much yarn left over from other projects. Each leftover yarn scrap was not enough to make a new item with but was too much to just throw away (seems such a waste), and so I kept collecting these yarn remnants. I finally realized what I could do with them – make a new blanket. I think the result was great. Let me know what you think in the comments. So many different colors and textures and I can remember what I made with most pieces so it’s like a memories blanket as well!

Materials:

Leftover yarn from other projects. I used various thickness of yarns. It adds to the texture and uniqueness of the blanket.

5mm crochet hook (I used the same size hook regardless of yarn thickness.)

Each Granny stitch is a cluster of 3xdc.

The next row is crocheted in the spaces between the granny stitches of the row before, not in the loop at the top of the dc. So when it says 3 dc or granny stitch in next stitch, it means 3dc in the space between two granny stitches or sets of 3dc.

The 6dcs (2x granny stitches) will become the corners of each square. You’ll crochet repeats of 3dcs (1x granny stitch) along the straight edges of the squares.

Ch = chain

St(s) = stitch(es)

Dc = double crochet

Sl st = slip stitch

Stitch sp = space between two dc stitches

Beg = beginning

Instructions:

Rnd 1: Make a magic ring, Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc inside ring. (3 dc) 3 times in ring, makes 12 dc in ring = 4 granny sts. Sl st to beg ch 3.

Rnd 2: 6 dc in same stitch sp (between two dc), (skip 3 dc, 6 dc in next stitch space) 3 times, (makes 24 dc = 8 granny sts). sl st to beg dc.

Rnd 3: *6 dc in same stitch sp (between two dc), skip 3 dc, 3 dc in next stitch sp, skip 3 dc**, repeat 3 times, (makes 36 dc = 12 granny sts). sl st to beg dc. The 6dc will become the corners of the squares.

Rnd 4: *6 dc in same stitch sp (between two dc), skip 3 dc, 3 dc in next stitch sp, skip 3 dc, 3 dc in next stitch sp, skip 3 dc**, repeat 3 times, (makes 48 dc = 16 granny sts). sl st to beg dc.

Rnd 5: 6 dc in the corner in the space between 2 granny stitches. 3dc along straight sides in the spaces between each granny stitch of the row below. 6 dc in each corner in the space between 2 granny stitches.

Repeat Rnd 5 until blanket is the size you want.

Optional: Finish off with 1-2 rounds in the same yarn (I bought a new skein to do this) to give a uniform edging to the blanket.
