Cozy Crochet Toddler Hat - Free Pattern

Size 16" circumference. Laying flat the measurements should be about 8" across the opening and 7" from top to bottom.

Supplies:
#5 yarn
5.5mm hook

Abbreviations:
ch - chain
sc – single crochet
dc - double crochet
st – stitch
sl st - slip stitch
sp - space


Instructions:

Hat
Round 1: Make a magic ring and ch 3. 12 dc inside the ring. Sl st to top of ch 3. Pull ring tight.

Round 2: Ch 2 (counts as dc here and throughout).  5 dc in sp between dc stitches.  *Skip 3 sts. 6 dc in sp between dc sts. Repeat from * around. Sl st to top of ch 2. 24 dc

Round 3:  Ch 2.  5 dc in sp between dc stitches.  *Skip 3 sts. 3 dc in sp between dc sts. Skip 3 sts. 6 dc in sp between dc sts. Repeat from * around. Sl st to top of ch 2. 36 dc

Round 4:  Ch 2.  5 dc in sp between dc stitches.  *Skip 3 sts. 3 dc in sp between dc sts. Skip 3 sts. 3 dc in sp between dc sts. Skip 3 sts. 6 dc in sp between dc sts. Repeat from * around. Sl st to top of ch 2. 48 dc

Rounds 5-12:  Ch 2.  2 dc in sp between dc stitches.  *Skip 3 sts. 3 dc in sp between dc sts. Repeat from * around. Sl st to top of ch 2. 48 dc

Rounds 13-16:  Ch 1.  Sc in each st around. Sl st to top of ch 1. 48 sc

Fasten off, weave in ends.


Flower
The flower consists of two layers of petals.

Outer Petals:
Round 1: Magic Ring, ch 3.  10 dc inside the ring. Sl st to top of beginning ch 3. Pull ring tight.
Round 2: *Ch 3, skip 1 dc, sl st.  Repeat from * around.  Sl st to top of beginning ch 3.  (5 ch 3)
Round 3: *Ch3, 6 dc in ch 3 sp, sl st. Repeat from * around. 5 petals. Fasten off. Leave a long tail of yarn to attach the flower to the hat.

Inner Petals:
Round 1: Magic ring, *ch 2, dc, ch 2, sl st.  Repeat from * 4 times. 5 petals.  Pull ring tight. Fasten off. Leave a long tail of yarn to attach the inner petals to the outer petals.


To Finish: Attach inner petals to outer petals using yarn ends. Attach flower to hat using yarn ends. Weave in ends.
