Union Jack British Flag Crochet Baby Cardigan



Union Jack British Flag Cardigan

#3 yarn (I used Bernat Softee Baby)
4mm hook

Size: 3 mths
Finished size 16” chest


Free Pattern:

Chain 36

Row 1: dc in 4th ch from hook and next 3 chs, 3 dc in next ch, dc in next 5 chs, 3 dc in next ch, dc in next 10 chs, 3 dc in next ch, dc in next 5 chs, 3 dc in next ch, dc in last 5 chs. ch 2, turn.

rows 2-6: dc in each dc across putting 3dc in center dc of 3dc group below. Ch 2, turn.

row 7: dc across to center of first 3dc group, ch 4, skip across to next 3dc, dc in center st and each st across to center st of 3rd dc group, ch4, skip to last 3dc put dc in center of 3dc group and across to end. ch 2, turn. 

row 8: dc in each dc and chain across (46 sts). ch 2, turn.

rows 9-15: dc in each dc across. Ch 2, turn.

row 16: ch 1, sc up front side of sweater, 3 sc in corner, sc around neckline, 3 sc in corner, sc down side of sweater, 3 sc corner, sc across bottom of sweater, 2 sc in last st and join to first sc with a sl st. 

row 17: Buttonhole band working up front side, ch 1, sc in first 2 sts, *ch 1, miss next sc, sc in next 6 sc, repeat from * 3 times (4 buttonholes made), sc in sts to top corner, ch 1, turn.

row 18: sc in each sc, 2 sc in each ch sp, ch 1, turn.

row 19: sc in each sc across. Fasten off and weave in ends.

row 20: join yarn on bottom corner of opposite front side, sc up front side of sweater to top corner, ch 1, turn.

rows 21-22: sc in each sc, ch 1, turn.

row 23: Shell collar working around neckline, sc, *miss next 2 sc, 5dc in next sc, repeat from * around neckline, join with a sl st to sc. Fasten off and weave in ends.


Sleeves: join yarn to center stitch at bottom of armhole
Row 1: dc around.
Rows 2-8:  dc in each dc
Row 9: sc in each dc. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Turn back sleeve cuffs. Sew on Union Jack British flag buttons
