Knitted Triangle Prayer Shawl – Healing Wrap - Free Pattern

Shawl begins at center back at the bottom. Increases are made every alternate row making a yarn over loop. Do not use an existing st to make a st increase. The finished yarn over leaves an open space that is part of the design.

Measures approximately 45" across the top from point to point, and 21" long from the top edge (at neck) to bottom point.


Materials:
#4 yarn
5.5mm knitting needles
6mm crochet hook
stitch markers
row counter

I made this with Lion Brand Heartland yarn in Joshua Tree. I used circular bamboo knitting needles (you turn at the end of the row the same as when using traditional single point needles) and a steel crochet hook with an ergonomic soft plastic handle. I used locking stitch markers and slid them onto the needle - not onto the knitted stitch. I kept count of my rows with a handy row counter.

Abbreviations:
k = knit
p = pearl
yo = yarn over
k2tog = knit 2 stitches together
st(s) = stitch(es)
pm = place marker
mm = move marker up a row
slp = slip off needle

Place markers as instructed on Row 3. On following rows, move markers up to the current row each time you come to them.



Instructions:
Cast on 5 sts.
Row 1 (RS): K2, yo, k1, yo, k2 (7 sts)
Row 2: Knit across
Row 3: K2, yo, k1, yo, place marker (pm), k1, pm, yo, k1, yo, k2 (11 sts )
Row 4: Knit across
Row 5: K2, yo, k to marker, yo, move marker up a row (mm), k1, mm, yo, k to last 2 sts, yo, k2 (15 sts)
Row 6: K2, p to last 2 sts, k2
Row 7: K2, yo, k to marker, yo, move marker up a row (mm), k1, mm, yo, k to last 2 sts, yo, k2 (19 sts)
Row 8: K2, p to last 2 sts, k2
Row 9: K2, *yo, k2tog, rep from * to 1 st before marker, yo, k1, yo, mm, k1, mm, yo, k1, **yo, k2tog, rep from ** to last 2 sts, yo, k2 (23 sts)
Row 10: K2, p to last 2 sts, k2
Row 11: K2, yo, k to marker, yo, mm, k1, mm, yo, k to last 2 sts, yo, k2 (27 sts)
Row 12: Knit across
Repeat Rows 5-12 for pattern 9 more times
Do not bind off.


Finishing:
Leave sts on knitting needle. Insert crochet hook through the first 2 sts and slip off needle (slp), yo and draw through all sts on hook, ch 7, *insert crochet hook through the next 3 sts and slp, yo and draw through all sts on hook, ch 7, rep from * across to last 2 sts, insert crochet hook through the last 2 sts, slp, yo and draw through all sts on hook. Fasten off and weave in ends.
